Global Awareness--6th Grade
Our project in cowboy bell this month has been to become more globally aware. Students played some online games to become familiar with countries all over the world. As a culminating project, they chose a country to research and share via a presentation using prezi or glogster.

Persuasive Advertisements--5th Grade
Fifth grade students are participating in a mock advertising campaign. They are working in groups of 4 to create a series of ads, which will highlight persuasive techniques and elements of design commonly used in marketing. Students are using Glogster.com as a template for their ads. Using this Web 2.0 tool has been extremely valuable in creating ads that are authentic in appearance and that are quite similar to legitimate ads found on the Internet. Students will use their Glogs in their final presentations. This activity followed a guest speaker who confirmed print ads are dying out and the Internet is where the 'real world' is now advertising--making this an authentic activity for students.

College Glog--6th Grade
For my second Cowboy Bell unit, I decided to have students begin thinking about college. To start this process, students brainstormed important things they needed to consider when looking at colleges and then identified three factors that were most important to them. After they had decided what they were looking for in a college, students went on collegeboard.com which allowed students to narrow their search and to help them eventually identify three colleges they were interested in. Students then reviewed all three websites and finalized their decision. Once their decision was made, students navigated their college's website to answer questions which would then be presented on their glog.
This is such a neat process and is amazing to see just how seriously students took this assignment. The skills of navigating each website will come in handy when working on their research paper as well.
