Self Portrait Reduction Prints (grade 8)
Self Portrait Reduction Prints (grade 8) Students take digital portraits of each other. They then use Adobe Photshop to remove the color, do appropriate sizing, adjust the brightness and contrast, and finally posterize to four levels. This posterized version is then used as a carving plan for a three step linoluem reduction print. I have included on the flash drive ann example of the posterized digital image and of a finished print.
Surrealistic Landscape - Computer Graphics project (grade 7)
Surrealistic Landscape - Computer Graphics project (grade 7) Students draw 5 words out of jars (place, person or animal, verb, adjective and adverb). They then learn the basic tools in Adobe Photshop to create a surrealistic landscpae that illustrates all 5 of their words. They learn to work with a number of layers. Prior to this they have a short lesson on Surrealism and Surrealistic artists. I have included two examples on the flash drive from May 2010. We will be doing this or a similar project in May 2011.
Pinhole Photography Book (grade 8)
Students make a pinhole camera from a box, usually a shoebox. They then learn the basics of black and white photography (how a camera works, exposure and darkroom chemical processing). They do a piece of creative writing on their choice of subject and take pinhole photgraphs that will illustrate the writing. Students then use Adobe Photoshop to design their book pages. They build on their knowledge of Adobe Photoshop from 7th grade in working with layers to import images for their pages, some for use as backgrounds, spatial arrangement and creative use of text. Pages are printed out and put into a book that they also make in art. I have included on the flash drive one students pages for her book.
